As I mentioned in my previous post on Three Lesser Known Ways To Build Blog Traffic, traffic to your blog is crucial. You could be writing the most helpful, informative blog out there but if it doesn’t have any traffic- then it’s all for nothing. Here are some less popular- but very effective- ways of doing it.
Tweet About Older Posts: Bloggers typically send out a tweet on Twitter about their newest post. So why not do this for older posts? What I have begun doing is sending out the random tweet about one of my blog’s older post. I’ll do this, maybe, once or twice every week. With the nature of Twitter, nobody can read every tweet sent out by someone they are following. By sending out tweets linking to older posts, you’ll be exposing your past work to a new audience.
Squidoo: Squidoo is a publishing platform which allows you to create “lens” which are essentially pages which focus on one topic or subject. Setting up a lens is pretty straightforward, and offers plenty of display options for your lens. Creating a Squidoo lens allows you the opportunity to create backlinks to your blog along with adding your RSS feed which will display your most recent blog posts with excerpts.
BloggersBase: BloggersBase is a site which offers bloggers the opportunity to post a blog post (either a new or old blog post) which is then voted on by people who read your post. Their vote coupled with other factors pertaining to your site membership (such as number of submitted posts, previous scores, and such) determine what your score is each week. If your score is high enough, then your blog post will become a featured blog post meaning more visibility.
BloggersBase is fairly new so it is easy for anyone to get started and begin building a readership which will spill over to new readers at your blog. Plus, if you are using Wordpress for your blog, then be sure to grab the BloggersBase plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bloggersbase-auto-publisher/) which makes posting your blog post to your BloggersBase blog a snap!
Promoting Posts With Your Blog’s Interface: If you use Wordpress as your blog platform, then you have no excuse for not promoting your past blog posts! Not only does promoting past blog posts help expose readers to more of your blog, it also helps build link juice for SEO.
All you need to get started are two plugins: Recently Popular which displays the most recent popular posts on your blog, and Similar Posts which displays a defined number of posts which relates to the blog post being read. Both of these are free to download and easy to setup.
Building blog traffic does take time. It doesn’t happen overnight! Everyone starts with one fan- yourself. There are many ways to build blog traffic. These four are just some of the ways you can do it. Regardless of which ones you choose to use, the key is to do it! Like I mentioned in the beginning: you may have the best blog out there on your topic, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t have any traffic. So spend the time to build the traffic for your blog. It is well worth it!
