Three Lesser Known Ways To Build Blog Traffic

February 17, 2010

Traffic is like currency for a blog. In order to grow your market reach online, you need traffic- plain and simple! There are many ways to build traffic to your blog (such as SEO, commenting on blogs and forums, and having your blog indexed by the search engines, for example) but today, I’m going to go over some of the lesser known ways to build traffic to your blog.

BloggersBase (http://www.bloggersbase.com/): BloggersBase is a site which offers bloggers the opportunity to post a blog post (either a new or old blog post) which is then voted on by people who read your post. Their vote coupled with other factors pertaining to your site membership (such as number of submitted posts, previous scores, and such) determine what your score is each week. If your score is high enough, then your blog post will become a featured blog post meaning more visibility.

BloggersBase is fairly new so it is easy for anyone to get started and begin building a readership which will spill over to new readers at your blog. Plus, if you are using Wordpress for your blog, then be sure to grab the BloggersBase plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bloggersbase-auto-publisher/) which makes posting your blog post to your BloggersBase blog a snap!

RSS / Blog Directories: These directories are a great way to build traffic to your blog. These directories collect and display a submitted blog’s recent post or RSS feed. Some directories require you to display a “badge” which links back to their site. So the choice is yours. You can find some directories in this post from Online Marketing Blog (http://www.toprankblog.com/rss-blog-directories/) and also at Search Engine Journal (http://www.searchenginejournal.com/20-essential-blog-directories-to-submit-your-blog-to/5998/)

Squidoo: Squidoo is a publishing platform which allows you to create “lens” which are essentially pages which focus on one topic or subject. Setting up a lens is pretty straightforward, and offers plenty of display options for your lens. Creating a Squidoo lens allows you the opportunity to create backlinks to your blog along with adding your RSS feed which will display your most recent blog posts with excerpts.

These are just three lesser-known traffic generators which I suggest you give a try. Do you have any suggestions which may not be as well-known as others? Let me and everyone else know about in the Comments below. Thanks!
